Design Considerations
  • Durable construction

  • Forklift-compatible

  • Protects stored equipment

  • Withstand 10 ft/s impacts

  • Safe material selection

  •  Logical stacking

  • Easy unpacking and repacking

  • Assembly by untrained personnel

Design Solution

I designed a multi-layer resupply crate to protect equipment during transportation while keeping components organized for system setup.

The internal layers were arranged in the order components would be removed, allowing the crate's layout to support the setup process rather than simply store everything in one container.

I developed the crate around the required dimensions, equipment protection needs, and setup sequence. The layered arrangement was designed to keep components organized and accessible, while allowing the crate to be moved by forklift and assembled by personnel without specialized training.

During drop testing on the 1,000 lb drop tester I designed, the crate sustained damage at a corner under certain impact directions. I reinforced the affected area and modified the structure to improve its response to those impacts. The revised crate was then retested, with improved force-related results.
